Make your travels easier by using smartphone apps
Smartphones and Mobile App Usage
Smartphones and the use of mobile apps are very popular nowadays, as almost all tasks can be performed directly through the phone. You can manage and monitor your bank account, order products from your favorite store, find nearby important buildings and locations (restaurants, gas stations, etc.), and make various online reservations – and much more. There’s no longer a need for a computer to play games, navigate, or manage your favorite office tools.
Maps and GPS
The most useful app in this category is undoubtedly Google Maps, where you can plan your route, see which roads to avoid by enabling traffic options, and save your favorite locations. You can also choose voice navigation. Another interesting app is Waze, which allows you to place markers on the map that report traffic information to other users. This creates a network where drivers help each other. The more you use it, the higher your ranking.
Airlines and Airports
Larger and more modern airports offer their apps, showcasing their services and providing the option to book flight tickets and check flight statuses. Of course, many other apps allow you to check and book flights from various airlines, monitor flights and delays, get all the information about your desired airport, check weather forecasts, and more.
Weather
When it comes to weather, it’s hard to recommend just one app, as there are many available. Some apps allow you to enter addresses or places you will visit and the time of your visit to get a weather forecast. This way, you can adjust your gear and clothing to the weather. Google has developed an app called Google Now, which creates “cards” on mobile screens, providing useful information (navigation, weather, nearby restaurants, etc.).
Stay Organized
Have you heard of the app TripIt? It offers free and paid services, providing all the desired information (hotel reservations, car rentals, flight details) in one place. It also allows you to convert information into a printable format. It’s very convenient to have all your travel information in one place, and you can add notes and comments. For flights, the app can help you find the terminal and gate numbers, which is especially important at large airports when you need to change planes or if someone is waiting for you outside the airport – for example, a car rental service. Do you want to scan and send receipts? The CamScanner app allows you to take a picture and send it to a selected recipient via SMS or email. Banks also offer their apps, enabling you to photograph and save records of your withdrawals, deposits, and transactions or even make a payment on the go. If you’re interested in how much money you’ve spent or where you’ve been spending, there are apps available that allow you to enter your expenses and bills and easily track if you’re overspending.
Car Rental – RENT-A-CAR
Car rental providers also offer apps that allow you to book a car rental. You can download or visit the apps of various providers, as prices and offers vary. There is even an app called FOX Rent-a-Car, which offers car rentals in multiple countries worldwide. However, most offerings are in the USA and much less elsewhere, as there are generally not many global car rental providers. The aforementioned TripIt app will also transfer car rental information into its organizer.
Hotels
Hotels have also found their place in the world of mobile apps. With these apps, you can search among the cheapest hotels, make reservations, and monitor offers. When it comes to using apps to organize travel, the list is extremely long. If we take some time to check the list of apps that could be useful for our travels, we realize that a mobile phone can be transformed into a very useful travel tool.
